You are what you eat.

While listening to a presentation in class, I kept thinking this girl really sounds like a news anchor. And not in a good way. She kept using the same banal phrases relied on by most news stories. Every time she said "as the disaster unfolds" or "we'll have to wait and see," I cringed a little.

Of course using certain phrases is sometimes unavoidable, but I wondered how much CNN (or pick your poison), this student of all things cable had been watching.  Was she regurgitating what she had recently heard on the news? Or was she digging up wording that had been engrained in her?  Either way, it can't hurt to watch what you put in your ears...It just might come out your mouth.

Quality not Quantity

In an effort to stop frivolous spending, I've stopping buying anything unnecessary.  If it's not food or another necessity, I'm not swiping.  After packing for my last trip, I realized just how much clothing I have – I spent hours deciding which clothes to take out of my bag.  My aunt said for two weeks in the Virgin Islands I could fit all my clothes into a carry-on: a dress, two pairs of shorts, a skirt, bikini, flipflops, sneakers, and a few shirts.  My carry-on was a little fuller than my aunt suggested, but I severely edited down my vaca wardrobe.

Right now, I'm trying to focus on being creative with my current wardrobe. When I tape the pieces of my credit card back together, I want to buy clothing that I couldn't live without, either because it's a classic essential or an amazingly unique piece.  Gone is the attitude of buying to buy.  Or buying because something is on sale and IT'S 500% OFF!

I love the idea of shopping more like a man and this article in the WSJ reinforced my newfound attitude:

One reason for the quality difference is trendiness: Because womenswear is more faddish, there's a perception in the fashion industry that the clothes will be thrown away more quickly. Indeed, fast fashion has trained a generation to seek out throwaway styles. 

So I'm throwing away my credit card and deleting the emails advertising sales and new styles.  Hello money-free, waste-free classiness!

Classy in College: What does it mean?

So, I think it is really important we figure out what it means to be "classy in college." Just talking to some people we have already decided it is a fine line to walk and is it possible to even define a "classy girl."  Most people tell me that when someone is classy you can just tell, it is not a list of characteristics or traits. Either way, I think it is necessary to create some guidelines of what we think it means to be "classy in college." Here's the dictionary definition of classy as a start.
