Anthropologie Meteor Shower

While I was getting my afternoon fix I found this cute top at Anthropologie, I wanted to post it because I thought the diagonal beading stands out against the monopoly of this style shirt that is popular. It's 100% silk, a negative that it has to be dry cleaned. I can't decide if it is worth $78.00, I am probably going to watch and see if it goes on sale or anything. It would look so cute with black jeans and heels! I also think you could pull it off in the summer with the right shorts.

Decisions...Just one big one.

I held two acceptance letters.  One of them from the Princeton of the West, the other from the Stanford of the East.  Oh, the paper was so heavy and at least 50% cotton!  The letter printed on the infinitely sustainable paper had a watermark of a cyclohexane molecule with 5 methyl substituents.  The other letter came not in an envelope, but a reusable shopping bag for organic produce.  At which school would I want to learn to be a responsible recycler (amongst other life skilllls)?  Two such promising choices...

Such deliberation slims in comparison to the wobbling I went through when deciding the color of my new Hunter wellies.
I first fell in love with the silver ones.  I like shiny things and I like rain boots.  What's a winning-er combo?

I finally decided it was too much of a good thing and I'd probably tire of the silver color.  In the words of happy sport, they look like they belong on the tin man.

Next, I saw the new turquoise Hunter's.  Te amo.  What a color!
I don't have too many clothes that complement bright turquoise- so this pair would be difficult to wear for the weeklong monsoons we occasionally receive in Williamsburg.  Second pair?

Finally, I fell in love with the glossy violet.
Unfortunately, so did every other girl, shoe size 8!

So many beautiful choices, but I decided on the ultimate classic welly.  Something that will make me stand out amongst the sea of hunter green Hunter's...

Just in time for the blizzard

My new boots!! My friend, W has these in black with a blue zipper and loves them, I was envious for sometime now. I decided to get the lighter ones; I think for Steve Madden they really look nice, classic tan boot then you look at the back and there is the red awesome zipper! They finally arrived, I am so excited!! I love the red zipper, I have not seen anyone with these boots and they will stand out in the blur of brown tall boots. Can't wait to wear them tomorrow, just in time for all the snow Cornell is getting tonight!

-----

Cornell did get a ton of snow, but these boots are a huge disappointment. Mr. Madden did not pull through for me, all my fears came true about ordering a pair of Steve Maddens. The picture is not a good representation of what the boots like look in person. The leather is soo bad, but I mean what can you expect for Steve Madden, at the same time they were almost $200 boots so I would expect better quality of the designer/manufacturer. I am going to see how they hold up in the snow, they will probably become my "going to class boots" save my fryes for when it really matters. I learned my lesson, never doubt your initial thought/ feeling when you decide to make a purchase and do not convince yourself otherwise and make an impulse purchase.

Suede Booties

I don't think the suede of these Kenneth Cole booties look cheap...

I feel like booties are very trendy, but like that this style is so simple and versatile.

Glitter (not the Mariah Carey way)

Everyone wants their outfit to stand out, sparkle, glow, unique, memorable, sexy, eye catching... etc, etc. One way to accomplish this and totally rock it: classy glitter. Not every girl will admit it, but inside we all love glitter, it is a girl thing. The difficult part is deciding when is it appropiate to wear glitter and how exactly. Well J. Crew has the answer, these satin pumps in black and pink with the glitter heel are perfect for all our secret glitter obsessions! (well at least mine) Personally, I would go with the black because you can get more use, but the pink is adorable.

Did I mention they are on sale?

Fruity Cocktail

Last week, I came across this dress and fell in love with it. It has a fruity, fun, outgoing feel to it. I recently read that one shoulder is going to be big this spring and summer and I felt this dress was a perfect representation of that. The back is gorgeous, I think backs are sexy, in a classy way of course. The cut is fun and looks flattering for many body types, the high waist and the looseness of the skirt. The only bad thing about this dress is the fabric looks like it has a little too much brown, the vibrant colors look so fun and the large patches of brown seem to dampen that fun.

"Affirmative Action for Boys"

From the NYT "The New Math on Campus":

"Thanks to simple laws of supply and demand, it is often the women who must assert themselves romantically or be left alone on Valentine’s Day, staring down a George Clooney movie over a half-empty pizza box."

So I also blab on and on about how I think college admissions should be racially blind...but what about gender blind?  Does a higher girl to boy ratio have potentially detrimental effects for students' health *health of boy-crazed girls* and safety (it's a bit of a slippery slope argument)?  Should schools try to promote a narrower gender gap?  Or does this once again introduce overzealousness of Admissions Departments to create a "balanced class" and thus unfairness in the admissions process?
"But still. 'It causes girls to overanalyze everything — text messages, sideways glances, conversations,' said Margaret Cheatham Williams, a junior at North Carolina. 'Girls will sit there with their friends for 15 minutes trying to figure out what punctuation to use in a text message.'"
Really?!?  Never.
Too bad I didn't go to an Engineering School...

Check out Marginal Revolution post, too.

Classy in Chopard

I am having issues finding an image of my real Chopard dream watch, but this is close enough. I really love the round face, I spent some time looking at their square faced happy sport watches and they do not seem proportioned correctly. I think the mixed metals is okay, but all rose gold is so appealing(I will keep looking for a better picture). After recently discovering rose gold, I am in LOVE with it. Regular gold is too yellow, white gold is losing its attractiveness, platinum just looks like silver and well silver is just silver -- rose gold is special. It is even better because it is worth more than gold and can hold your investment well. This is my personal method of attempting to justify purchasing a Chopard watch (you can't look at your money in the bank, but you can look at a beautiful watch on your wrist) Also, the dancing diamonds are gorgeous!!! You cannot take your eyes off them, so not only is the watch alone beautiful, but adding the dancing diamonds ...nothing in my opinion is classier than a Chopard Happy Sport watch.

I must be realistic with myself and until I can afford a rose gold Chopard, I can settle with a stainless steel version. It is much more appropriate for everyday wear and can also handle being worn everyday since it is a much stronger metal. When in doubt, you will always be able watch you diamonds "dance".

My New Experiment

I was eating dinner with my friend M, who went vegetarian a month ago, and she mentioned that ever since she has been more tired. I told her about my brother who has been doing the slow-carb/very few-carbs approach. Now when he eats carbs, he is out cold on the couch for hours.

So we decided to try a diet/approach to eating (the end goal is not to lose weight, but if that happens I won't be distraught), which I think is better than vegetarianism! NO CARBS FOR A MONTH! That's right no rice, chips, pizza (at least the crust part), crackers, bread, muffins, and bagels :) I hope I'll get more energy and stop falling asleep in the middle of the afternoon. Some of my friends tried to tell me that my body would go bonkers and I wouldn't be able to function...I think the millions of Americans who tried Atkins were just fine, even if they did regain the weight, and carbs are in almost every food and drink!

We'll see how long I'll last without 3am pizza though and

RIP my anti-drug...

Byebye wristlets!

Going out bags...Tons of girls use Coach wristlets when they go out and stuff them with lip gloss, phone, money, credit cards and literally anything that will fit in there (which is nothing)! And then the wristlet looks misshapen and slightly ridiculous. Not only do outfits need to be edited, but also our purse contents!

Anyhoo, my godmother sent me the sweetest birthday box and in it was my new going out bag!

Over the shoulder bags are totally coming back into fashion- they haven't really been cool since sometime in the 90's- and they work so much better for going out! I love the equesterian-looking Cole Haan bag, but it's definitely still got some class (hello, gold chain). The leather is a different color than pictured, I have a hunting-ish green.

But they will go perfectly with the boots I got on Black Friday...so many new outfits!

---

Not to say some Cornell girls have style, but a lot of girls are carrying over the shoulder bags when they go out. I have noticed a lot of vintage Dooney and Bourke and newer Louis's over the shoulder bags. You can get a great steal on these bags at consignment and vintage stores. I love my Dooney one, it is so convenient and it actually looks cute with a lot of my winter night outfits. I want to find a lighter and funner one for the summer, my current one is pretty dark brown. I am trying to find a picture, I will post it soon. I just wanted to point out some personal reasons why over the shoulder bags make so much more sense for going out and why every classy girl should have one.

1. All your important is safe, you do not have to worry about losing anything or even your bag because it's on you.
2. It looks cute and stylish - fashion forward - other girls on campus will eventually pick up the new trend(next semester) when they see you at the bars.
3. It can used as a cock block(literally), just swing your bag to your butt(works wonders to keep those frat boys away!)
4. As a classy college girl, it gives you two completely free hands to do whatever you want all night!

Now, go forth and rock your classy over the shoulder bag! -- happy sport

hunters

$54.95! You can't beat that for totally unique Hunters. I plan to rock these on campus.

Frye... I love you

I am in love with Frye. I love the studs, I really want a short pair of cowboy boots. I would totally wear these in the summer. I need a pair to wear when I hang out with all the farm boys :D

I have noticed the locations where they are made changes and it does vary with price. Some come from Italy, Mexico and New York. I want to look into that more.

Custom Made Jeans

My Azul Spanish Denim Custom Jeans have shipped! I've got a bad feeling they won't live up to my expectations; how can a good pair of custom made pants be constructed without a personal fitting? Leanne got hers and they were disappointing, the inseam was inches too short and they had this weird pegleg fit going on. I know that pegleg is trendy now, but how is pegleg the same as skinny/narrow fit?

Swiss made....and Chanel

After I saw that shopgirl at the sunglasses store rocking the white ceramic watch I've been lusting for my own Chanel.  She was wearing hella accessories but the watch didn't seem to clash but  looked perfect.  I need!
The simple face is so fresh looking!  White or black?
And diamonds for those showy girls...
Now I can return to the VI and be the perfect shopgirl trying to peddle lovely sunglasses to to European cruise takers and American college students...

Still can't stop thinking about this vacation..

We are doing this someday for sure.

Well it seems like the best part of a vacation is planning it...or so we're told.  When I think about it seems true.  I was excited for months before going to St. John's, and the vacation was extremely relaxing and filled with adventures, but when I got back I can't say I was extremely happy for more than another week.  I smile when I look through the pictures, but I'm not in a cheery mood a month after paradise.
