Tretorn Alternative

Forget the Hunter Wellies, keep your feet dry in some Trentorns.

They range in price from $50-$80. Way more reasonable than Hunters.

Forget the J.Crew disappointments(see J.Crew rainboot post) and Hunter prices.. Trentorns are the next big rainboot for sure.

$40.00

If you are still Hunter obsessed, here is my tip.. buy the Trentorns then order some of the fancy over-priced Hunter liners, wear them inside the Trentorns, fold over the socks so EVERYONE see the label and then rock the Hunter look with the Trentorns. When Spring arrives when no one is wearing Hunters, you can take the fugly liners out and rock the hawt Trentorn look! Plus, you can buy the Trentorns for the price of just the Hunter liners. XOXO Hunter Wellies.

Simply White

The simple silver and white Skagen is on sale for 63. Maybe a bit too simple for my taste.

Not completely loving the logo bezel, Marc by Marc Jacobs, on this watch, but love love love everything else. The white and gold looks effortlessly chic and the face is so simple, easy on the eyes, and very readable. On sale for 99. Although my watch is white, this is quite tempting.

Toying with buying a Toywatch

Happy Sport has ignited this burning for a NEW watch within the superficial part of my soul. When watch browsing, I furrow my brow when I see that Nordstroms has branded white AND ceramic as current watch trends. I liked BOTH of those things before they were a trend...and in the original J12. One day, I will get that watch and it will be forever classic in my eyes, not trendy!

I have always liked the playfully plastic Toywatch watches. Nordstroms is having a big sale and so many of their watches have been reduced...check it!

What do we think of the 'Mini Plasteramic' Bracelet Watch in light blue?

I'm also digging the white band with the blue colored face. Comes in a variety of popping colors for the face.

To fishtail?

I have yet to find the perfect long dress...I love the prints on this Tibi dress.  But what about the fishtail hem?  Even though my prom dress had a fishtail hem, I'm not a huge fan of the short in front and long in back.  If a dress does have a fishtail hem, I feel like it should be dramatic like a big bright tropical fish.  The hem on "Great Expectations" dress is more reminiscent of a muddy catfish.  At RueLaLa for 179.

Dear Gilt, I hate you.

A few months I posted about these sandals.  They were my lifeline for a perfect future.  The stars aligned when I was browsing Gilt's DVF sale.  All the shoes were pretty bland, until I spotted THE BLUE FEATHERED sandals at the bottom of the page.  FOR FIFTY PERCENT OFF!  Looks like this was more of a shooting star day (haha).  Alas, they were sold out of my size and almost sold out completely.  More like a moon-less night.  But then I kept refreshing the page, probably about fifty times.................SIZE 8 available!  I added them to my bag and entered in my credit card in about 0.234 seconds.  Once in a freaking blue moon.

Thennnnnnnnnn a few weeks go by and I constantly check my email for the tracking number of my blue-feathered babies.  I finally get notification of shipment, but no tracking number.  Odd...how long can a blue moon last?  The next week, I receive an email that my sandals of peacock goddess status can not be shipped. EVER. No explanation.  METEOR SHOWER, my world is now RAVAGED.  Summer ruined. Life over on Sailing Equestrian Planet by big freaking Gilt meteors. Oh, but I got a $25 Gilt credit.

Farewell to Horses...Hello Motorcycle

Fall will be here before we know it, and we all know what that means... new fall boots!! Last fall it was mainly equestrian style riding boots, this fall it's motorcycle boots. What is the difference, I do not know exactly. So to get prepared I already fell in love these Frye "Motorcycle" boots!

The POWER Skirt: A Trendy, Profess, Class Act

Everyone's wearing it (in my mind).   BCBG even has a section of their website dedicated to them.  Nancy Pelosi wears them as pajamas.  Michele Obama wears them during her arm toning sessions.  And Sienna Miller gives them to her nannies.  The power skirt incorporates the trendy, bandage Herve Leger-style into a work-approps piece. At BCBG for 138-178.

For the black and grey suit lovers...

DIY pt. 2

One of my fav fashion blogs is The Glamourai...She recently blogged about making your own scarf dress, a very chic DIY idea.  I might try this with two of my airy, summer scarves.  Even though scarf dresses were in a few years ago, this look is pretty classic and can easily be updated or made trendy depending on the scarves' prints or chains.  This would be a great dress to wear around campus during the first week of classes (school.....eeeeek!).

Can Trends be Classy?

So I read the DC Interns blog (even though this summer it's certainly deviated from its high bar of ridiculotisty).  It's a guilty pleasure, I like to think of it as a more local, intellectual substitute for the Real Housewives of NJ.  Sort of like picking the farmer's market over a Wal-Mart Center, well that's certainly the attitude of most of the intensely tense folks that post on that laughable blog.

So I recently read this comment:
"FUCK trendiness. I know you all think you're such cool sheep, but you look like SHITE in those leggings no matter how "stylish" some waify runway or coked-out american apparel model says they are. The waify model may look good in the ads. YOU do not. NONE of you. You offend my eyes when I walk out the door."
Now I have my problems with leggings, but I like to think I wear them in a non-trendy, non-disgusting manner (usually no coke is involved, well depending on how my morning went....)  Obviously, I'm not quite ready to trade in my college clothes and classier college clothes for black and grey suits.  As interns and younger people that have to adhere to certain professional standards (well some interns doooooooooo), is there an appropriate way to incorporate trends into classy, professionalISH outfits? I think so.  Not sure if leggings can enter the picture here, but not all trends are inherently NSFW.  Instead, they can easily make you stand out (not in a DC Interns blog way!) in a snowcalypse of power blue, black pumps and pearls.

Bloody Mary, the Liquid Salad?

Love this New York Times article about bloody marys!

"no drink so thoroughly indulges both cheeky mixology and farm-to-table virtuousness."

John Hardy Color Blind Test?

$1000.00

Is it just me or do these John Hardy rings look like color blind tests?

If you want the multi-stone look I really like this multicolor John Hardy ring. The larger blue topaz in the middle makes this ring much easier on the eyes.

I love jewelry sets, so I am also in love with the matching earrings and pendant.

I also like these earrings, they are so pretty!

Burberry Beauty

Just last week Burberry launched their make-up line. The NYTimes included an article about the launch.

"Burberry Beauty, is a comprehensive collection of foundations, powders, bronzers, lipsticks and eye shadows that were inspired by the label’s classic trench coat and by the moody hues of the British climate. Two years in the making, the line pays homage to the vision of a modern English rose. “The Burberry girl wears just a trace of makeup — no crazy eyes or crazy lips, Makeup should enhance women, not just cover up what they perceive as flaws.”

DIY Chic

Just came across the blog P.S. I made this, a unique take on fashion and accessories DIY for girls of all ages with a tight budget.

The Tassel Earring DIY reminded me of my suitemate M and her love of all earrings, especially her black tassel earrings.

I really liked the Safety Pin Tank because you get a ridiculous shirt at a non-ridiculous price!

Happy Sport would love the One-Shouldered Ruffle Tee.  All you need is some scissors and a tee!

Sequin Struck

When I think about going back to school...I get slightly depressed and then think of something happy, say the parties next semester...and then I think of an even better substitute: summer.

But while I'm thinking about glamming it up for campus, I've been sequin-struck lately.  Maybe it's those bright, summery-colored, sequin dresses now on clearance at FCUK?  Happy Sport complained about the sequins not lying correctly and insisted on flipping them so they were all oriented in the correct direction...but look at these Miu Miu sequined platform pumps!  The sequins can never be going in the wrong direction, just the silver or gold direction...reversible sequins!  Brilliant, or should I say dazzling?!  At Neiman Marcus for 750.  My one complaint is the platform, kind of tacky-looking in my book.

To Match the Ring...

Who doesn't love a little 80s throwback? Especially if it includes gold and black sequins. Completely covering a mini dress. Hope this brightens your Wednesday, onward to the weekend!  Silk sequin Marchessa dress at theOutnet for 280...that's 65% off! Check out the rest of the evening dresses currently for sale!

Twosome Ring

Designer Erica Anenberg has trademarked two-fingered rings Twosome Rings.  Not crazy about her take on these rings, just simple gold or silver rings with Swarvoski crystals.  If you have a ring that is anchored by two fingers, there's twice as much space to have some obnoxiously, loud jewel attached.  Why not a huge, bejeweled starfish for the summer?  At ideeli for 70.

Prarie Girl Chick, wtf?!

Up to 70% off easy summer dressing - shop prairie girl chic today!

What caught my eye when I logged into gmail this morning...Prarie girl is not really chic in my book, just another section in the mammoth Forever 21 store.

Navy and Blue Optical Illusion

Every designer is jumping on the Herve Leger-fueled bandage dress bandwagon.  Often though, these dresses aren't flattering to the stomach (abs?!) because the wrapped fabric accentuates every bump.  Right now on Rue La La is Tadashi Shoji...this label's bandage dresses use color and design to artfully avoid unflattering silhouettes (although the turquoise colored dress isn't a bandage dress, I love the lines that will make any body curvy.)  Although the first dress is technically blavy, I've gotten over my fear of mixing black and navy and love the sometimes subtle combo.

Flowers, flowers and more flowers

Dior Shows Crazy Gardener Couture
John Galliano's garden grows very, very psychedelic, if the designer's latest couture collection for Dior is to be trusted. Poufy petal skirts, shocking colors, and floral embroideries aren't exactly new ground for Galliano, but the pollen sure is intoxicating.

Gold and Turquoise?

I love turquoise...the only piece of jewelry I wear daily is a simple silver knot ring with a small turquoise stone in the middle.  To me, silver and turquoise is like Drew Barrymore and rom-coms with decent plots...cant have one without the other.  Recently, I've been seeing turquoise paired with, gasp, gold!  I know Happy Sport loves this combo, but I was not entirely sold...until I saw these Antiquities Couture gold and turquoise earrings.  They are on the fatty side with a width of 1 inch, but I still love the detailing on the gold and jewel and metal combo!  If these were in silver, they would just be a little too "my body is covered in silver jewelery from New Mexico"-y.
Another shout out to Happy Sport, check out these gold, knot earrings. A bit to fatty for my taste. Both pairs are $16 at ideeli.

magical watch?!

Beyond having a ridiculously punctuated name, IO?ION! watches supposedly "increase concentration, natural detoxification of the body, improved sleep, relaxation and medication, improved vitality and mood" because they are treated with the semi-precious metal tourmaline. CRAZY. Do I believe? Hmmm...
Check out all the eye-catching colors at ideeli for only $14.
